Mayor’s Monarch Pledge: Columbia’s Monarch Conservation Commitment

The City of Columbia has joined the Mayor’s Monarch Pledge, a national initiative focused on protecting monarch butterflies as their populations have significantly declined in recent decades. Through this commitment, the City is taking action to support pollinator conservation and restore natural habitat.

As part of this pledge, Columbia is continuing its efforts as a Bee City USA by promoting sustainable practices throughout the City. The actions include planting milkweed in medians and public rights of way and issuing a proclamation to raise awareness about the decline of monarch butterfly populations in everyday community spaces.
